Gourds are the canvas for Marilyn Sunderland’s creative expression. Each gourd begins its transformation under her skillful hands with the help of an ultra high-speed carving/engraving tool.
Sunderland adds paint, wood stains or dyes and often she doesn’t stop there, explaining that “many times, I cut out individual leaves or flowers from other gourds and then attach them to my gourd to enhance the relief design.” Beautiful detail.
