lizzie farey’s willow work

Before Scottish artist Lizzie Farey began making baskets she trained in fine art and stained glass. When her sister in law taught her how to weave a basket she quickly became hooked, eventually planting a field of willow to cut for her creations, which now include willow wall drawings, sculpture and baskets.

Farey describes the journey, saying ”The technique you can leam in an afternoon, but the feeling for the material takes years to develop.”

“I have a fascination with living things and natural form. For me, willow has become a medium for an interaction with nature that is deeply personal.”

Christian Barnett shot a beautiful video of the art and the artist.
