sue gregor: fossilized plastic

While working on her Masters Degree, Sue Gregor discovered a new method to dye and emboss acrylic.  She calls the effect ‘Fossilized Plastic’, explaining that “the surface retains every detail and confronts the manufactured material with the organic.”

I enjoy creating rich surfaces which contain high definition. For the surface pattern I choose quite ordinary plants and weeds or textiles, using them to create the detailed relief on the surface. My work deals with the tension between surface pattern and its underlying meaning.
